A 6-year-old boy has died after collapsing during a shopping trip with his mother in Queensland, Australia.
Magnus Landon Kayde suffered what has been described as a “severe asthma attack” at a shopping center in Urangan on Nov. 28, according to the Daily Mail. Paramedics treated him at the scene and he was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died, the outlet reported.
Magnus’ mother, Casey Morris, shared the heartbreaking news on a GoFundMe page, writing that her son died at the Urangan shopping centre and calling it “a devastating loss” for her, her daughters and everyone who loved him. She explained that Magnus had been “very unwell” and had faced many health challenges throughout his life.
Despite his medical issues, Magnus was remembered as a funny and vibrant child. Morris wrote that on the day he died, he had caught a toad and named it Jeff, and those around him were delighted to see him coming out of his shell.

She also expressed deep gratitude to those who tried to save her son, saying she would be forever thankful to everyone who stepped in to help. Morris added that people at the scene held and comforted her and tried to shield her from onlookers as the emergency unfolded.
“Magnus will be missed immensely,” she wrote, saying her heart breaks every day and she just wants her little boy back.

Witnesses told the Daily Mail that the scene was distressing, describing the mother as inconsolable and calling the situation “so, so sad,” especially at this time of year. Another person said they went over to see if help was needed and were shaken to realize a young child was involved.
As of Saturday, Dec. 6, the Urangan Shopping Center and the Queensland Ambulance Service had not publicly commented on the incident.
