As Typhoon Wipha brought heavy rains and severe flooding to the Philippines, one couple proved that not even a natural disaster could stop their big day. Standing in knee-deep water inside the historic Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan, Jade Rick Verdillo and Jamaica Aguilar exchanged vows in a wedding ceremony as unforgettable as it was soaked.
Despite knowing the risk of flooding due to days of nonstop rain, the couple had no idea the water would rise as high as it did. Still, they refused to postpone.
“We just mustered enough courage,” Verdillo told the Associated Press. “We decided to push through today because not doing it would mean even more sacrifices. And marriage is all about facing challenges together.”
Photos from the scene captured the bride wading through the flooded aisle, her gown trailing behind her in the water, while Verdillo, waiting at the altar in a white suit with pants rolled up, stood ready to meet her.
The wedding party and guests, all smiles despite the unusual conditions, stood in ankle- to knee-deep water as the ceremony took place. Laughter and joy echoed through the flooded church, a testament to the couple’s determination and love.
“We’ve been together for 10 years,” Verdillo said. “This is just another test we’ve overcome—and I know there will be more. But this moment shows we’re ready.”
One guest called it a powerful reminder of true love: “You saw love win today. Even with the storm, rain, and floods, the wedding went on. It was extraordinary.”
Indeed, in the heart of a typhoon, their wedding turned into a symbol of resilience, romance, and the willingness to weather any storm—together.
