A bride planning her October 2026 wedding has one major request for her family — and it’s causing tension with her sister.
In a post on Reddit’s Bridezillas forum, the bride’s sister shared that the soon-to-be newlywed asked her to dye her dark purple hair to a “natural color” before the big day.
“This morning she texted me saying, ‘I would love it if you didn’t have colored hair for my wedding,’ because she’s ‘paying a lot of money for a photographer and doesn’t want bright-colored hair being an eyesore in photos,’ ” the sister wrote.
Despite the request, the sister isn’t backing down. She explained that she doesn’t want to apply dark dye on her previously bleached hair due to potential damage. Still, she offered a compromise — allowing her current color to fade, then dyeing it a darker red to match the wedding flowers.

The bride pushed back, suggesting dark brown instead.
“I explained that I don’t want to put dark brown dye on previously bleached hair,” the sister continued. “The conversation ended with me saying that I’ll try to get my hair as dark as I can before the wedding — and if she hates it, she can just kick me out.”
Friends proposed alternatives, like using a temporary root spray or wearing a wig, but the sister declined.
“I’d rather not put a ton of stuff in my hair,” she said.
She added that the bride’s request feels personal.
“If my sister really wanted me to be part of her wedding, we could find a compromise that doesn’t involve frying my hair,” she wrote, asking Redditors for advice.
Some commenters suggested creative workarounds, like paying the photographer extra to edit her hair color in post-production. Others sided firmly with the sister, saying the bride’s demand crossed a line.

“I’d decline to be in the wedding party and just attend as a guest — with whatever hair color I want. How off-putting,” one user wrote.
Another added:
“I’ll never understand brides who want loved ones to change their appearance for a wedding. If you don’t love people as they are, why invite them at all? Your wedding photos should capture memories — not perfection.”
