Crista Dettelis had planned a deeply meaningful “something borrowed” moment for her wedding day: wearing her mother’s 40-year-old wedding dress alongside her late grandmother’s 75-year-old bridal headpiece. Instead, the bride-to-be says she has been left devastated after the treasured items were allegedly stolen from the mailroom of her Las Vegas apartment complex last month.
Dettelis, an entrepreneur and podcaster, first shared her excitement in an Instagram post on Jan. 31. The video showed her posing in her mother’s wedding gown, accompanied by text expressing her joy at being engaged and her anticipation of wearing the same dress her mother had worn decades earlier.
The celebratory mood quickly shifted. The clip cut to a sequence of somber memes as Dettelis revealed that the dress had been stolen.
“I was supposed to wear my mom’s wedding dress for my legal ceremony — the same one she married my dad in,” she wrote. “I was already planning the ‘something borrowed’ moment, and now I’m planning a crime documentary instead. It’s been insane. We are devastated.”
In a follow-up video posted on Feb. 1, Dettelis urged viewers to “strap in,” describing the events surrounding the disappearance of the package. She explained that her mother had mailed both the dress and the vintage headpiece for her upcoming legal ceremony in the United States, ahead of a larger celebration planned in Greece.
According to Dettelis, she received a delivery notification but could not locate the package in the building’s mailroom. When she contacted the front desk, she says staff reviewed security footage that appeared to show a man with key fob access entering the mailroom around 1 a.m. and taking the parcel.
Although the individual could not be clearly identified, Dettelis said the footage captured the person’s vehicle. Determined to find answers, she searched the building’s parking area and claims she located a car matching the one seen on camera. She photographed the license plate and provided the information to building management, who attempted to contact the resident.
After receiving no response, Dettelis says she left a note on the vehicle, emphasizing the sentimental value of the items and asking for their return. She later stated that the resident denied taking the package, after which building staff informed her there was little more they could do.
Fighting back emotion, Dettelis asked her followers for help.
“At this point, I’ve given up on finding the dress,” she said in the video. “Yes, I’m going to press charges, even though I probably won’t get it back.”
She also described her mother’s reaction upon learning the news.
“She was so devastated. It broke her heart,” Dettelis shared. “It’s just gut-wrenching.”
In the caption, she reflected on the unique pain of losing sentimental items.
“If you’ve ever had something meaningful lost or taken, you know there’s no insurance claim, no refund, no dollar amount that can restore what was taken.”
Days later, on Feb. 4, Dettelis provided an update, expressing gratitude for the widespread support she had received. She noted that local pawn shop and vintage store owners had been monitoring listings, while strangers searched online marketplaces. Lawyers and news outlets also reached out, she said.

One individual even offered to recreate her mother’s dress from scratch.
“Thank you for not letting this be dismissed as ‘just a package,’” Dettelis wrote. “It wasn’t. It was a piece of my family’s history.”
Speaking with FOX 5, Dettelis reiterated the emotional weight of the loss.
“It’s irreplaceable. I can’t get it back,” she said, adding that she remains hopeful. “I’m trying to stay positive and hope that somehow, by a miracle, the dress comes back to me.”

Authorities confirmed to FOX 5 that the case is under investigation.
“This Grand Larceny is currently being investigated by Summerlin Area Command. This is an open and active case,” an LVMD spokesperson stated.
