A woman found herself in a workplace standoff after refusing to cancel her vacation so her co-worker could take time off for her wedding.
The 31-year-old shared her story on Reddit, explaining that she manages an in-store coffee kiosk with her assistant, whom she referred to as Betty. According to her post, Betty frequently calls in sick, forcing her to cover shifts — yet Betty is never willing to return the favor when the roles are reversed.
The woman, referred to as the original poster (OP), said she had already submitted her vacation request back in July. Her plan was to take several days off to celebrate her one-year anniversary with her boyfriend just after New Year’s Day.
Everything was approved and scheduled — until Betty recently approached her and said she wanted Jan. 2–10 off for her wedding.
“I told her, ‘Unfortunately, that’s not going to work,’ ” the OP recalled, explaining that she had already been approved for Jan. 2–6.
Betty seemed shocked and asked, “Well, can you change the time you go out of town? We already put the deposit on the venue.”

When the OP refused to alter her plans, Betty became angry. “All I got was, ‘We’ll see about that,’ ” she wrote.
Soon after, the OP discovered that Betty had taken the issue to management — and allegedly lied, claiming the OP had agreed to change her vacation so Betty could have the time off.
“I was pissed,” she wrote. “I turned to Betty and said, ‘What on God’s green earth made you think it was a good idea to lie to management?’ ” The OP reiterated that she wasn’t changing her vacation and reported the situation to her manager, insisting she wouldn’t be mistreated just to accommodate someone else’s poor planning.
Betty was reportedly “infuriated” and even began to cry. “A slight part of me feels bad for blowing up, but in this situation, she only did it to herself,” the OP concluded, asking Reddit readers, “AITA [am I the a——]?”

In the comments, most people sided with the OP.
“NTA [not the a——]. She doesn’t get to lie to management to get her way. You claimed the days first,” one commenter wrote.
Another added, “Betty needs to learn how to work with other people.”
Several also questioned why Betty made wedding plans — and paid a deposit — before confirming her vacation time.
“Why would she not verify her time off before putting money down on a venue? Her lack of planning is not your emergency to fix,” one reader said.
