A bride recently turned to Reddit to ask if she was wrong for refusing her mother’s unusual request.
The bride shared that her mother called to ask if she could pick her up from the airport — on the morning of her wedding.
“I was already a little annoyed by this request, but she also had the nerve to get pouty when we told her no,” she wrote. “My mom tried to point out that it could cost her $30 to arrange a ride to the hotel, and I was thinking…so what?”
“My fiancé and I are PAYING for the hotel that she is staying at,” she continued. “I know for a fact that my mother is not in such a financial bind that she cannot take an Uber or taxi.”
She added that none of their other relatives had made a similar request. “I know it seems minor, but I really can’t believe she would have the gall to ask something like this.”
In a follow-up comment, the bride explained her mother and step-grandmother are only flying in for a single day because her grandfather is in poor health and requires constant care. While she understood the limited travel schedule, she was frustrated by the airport request itself. “My mom asking me to pick her up at the airport DOES bother me. I have other things to do that day besides wasting time picking her up.”
Many Reddit users sided with the bride. One person wrote, “Your mom is (supposed to be) a big girl. Let her deal with it. You go & get married. Do your thing. Be careful and look out for more of your mom’s tomfoolery. Wanting you to delay the wedding so she can get ready, other crap like that. Be prepared to tell her off.”
Another added, “WTF? She is crazy even to ask you. Is there any other family that may be able to pick her up?” One user summed it up simply: “No!!! is a complete sentence.”
