A woman in Ohio says she narrowly avoided a terrifying close call after a car slammed into her home early Christmas morning — and then sped away.
Yomayra Morales told Cleveland 19 that she and her husband were in bed around 3 a.m. local time on Thursday, Dec. 25, when they heard a loud crash and felt the impact. When they went outside, she said they found their front porch badly damaged, along with their car and trash cans.
Security camera video captured the moment a car raced down the street in Morales’ suburban neighborhood, jumped the sidewalk and plowed into the house before leaving the scene.
“Seven seconds, they hit my car, my house, and he left or she left,” Morales said.
Morales also said she had planned to take her dogs for a walk about five minutes before the crash — a timing that could have put her on the front porch when the vehicle hit. She decided not to go out at the last minute.
Though she said she “thanks God” she stayed inside, Morales told the outlet the incident has left her shaken.
“It’s emotional,” she said. “I can’t sleep. In three days, I’ve only slept six hours.”
Morales said the crash destroyed her only vehicle, and she is now trying to figure out how to cover the costs of replacing the car and repairing the damage to her home.
The Cleveland Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the incident.
