Authorities have confirmed the cause of death for an Ohio State University student whose body was found inside the school’s football stadium in late September.
According to an autopsy report from the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, obtained by local outlets, 19-year-old William Meyers died by suicide from a jump at the stadium on Sept. 26.
Emergency responders were dispatched to Ohio Stadium at 9:56 a.m. that morning, the Columbus Dispatch reported.
In a statement issued at the time, Ohio State University said there had been “a fatality at the stadium” and identified the victim as William Meyers of Fairfield, Connecticut. The university added that “foul play is not suspected and there is no ongoing threat to the community.”
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time,” the school said, noting that Counseling and Consultation Services were available to students seeking support.
Meyers, a third-year accounting major, described on his LinkedIn profile how he and his older brother co-founded a charity that collected and donated used and unused sports equipment to local centers. He wrote that his core values included “respect, ethics, improvement, and integrity,” and shared that he enjoyed Scrabble and learning magic tricks in his free time.
A graduate of Fairfield Ludlowe High School in Connecticut’s Class of 2023, Meyers was remembered by classmates as kind and ambitious.
His death follows another tragedy at Ohio Stadium last year: 53-year-old Larissa Brady died by suicide during the university’s spring commencement ceremony in May 2024.
