Cheryl Hines says she encountered a wide mix of responses from friends after her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., ended his presidential campaign and endorsed Donald Trump’s bid for a second term.
The Curb Your Enthusiasm actress, 60, discussed the experience during an interview with Lara Trump — the wife of Eric Trump — for My View with Lara Trump. In a preview clip shared before the full interview airs, Lara asked how those close to Hines reacted when Kennedy publicly aligned himself with the MAGA movement.
“He originally ran for president as a Democrat,” Lara said. “And then that comes to an end, and he says, ‘I’m going to support the Republican candidate for president — Donald Trump.’ Did you hear from people, or did you suddenly not hear from people? How did that go for you?”
Laughing, Hines replied, “I heard from people. You know what, I was actually grateful for my good friends who had feelings about it — still have feelings about it — but at least would call me and say, ‘I can’t believe this is happening, you can’t let this happen!’ I’d rather that than someone I’ve known for 30 years just stop talking to me altogether.”
Hines went on to explain that she’s had “thoughtful discussions” with friends who are open-minded and can “see both sides.” She added, “It’s not black and white, and I really appreciate those people.”
Lara Trump’s full interview with Hines will air Saturday, Nov. 8, at 9 p.m. ET on FOX News Channel’s My View with Lara Trump.

Hines has been promoting her new book Unscripted and has spoken more openly about her husband’s relationship with the president, who appointed Kennedy as his secretary of health and human services.
During a recent appearance on The View, Hines shared that she was initially “guarded” about Kennedy’s decision to support Trump.
“I have not been a political person,” she said. “I haven’t posted anything on social media, other than to say people should go out and vote. I never told anyone who to vote for. I just said, ‘It’s important — vote.’ ”
“So with Bobby, that was a very difficult decision to make with President Trump,” she continued. “At the end of the day, President Trump and Bobby sat down and talked, and yes, they did have a lot of common goals.”
Kennedy and Trump have since launched the MAHA initiative — “Make America Healthy Again” — under which Kennedy has promoted various unverified claims and dismissed guidance from multiple health experts. The HHS secretary has made false statements linking Tylenol use and early circumcision to autism and has continued questioning the effectiveness and necessity of vaccines.
While appearing on The View, Hines maintained that both her husband and the president “want access to vaccines,” when asked about Kennedy’s anti-vaccine reputation by co-host Sunny Hostin.
Despite reports that Hines was initially “unhappy” with Kennedy’s decision to join forces with Trump, she has continued to publicly support her husband. The couple, who married in 2014, have attended several White House events together over the past year, including Kennedy’s confirmation hearings, his swearing-in ceremony, and the president’s inauguration in January.
