A quick-thinking child in Iowa may have saved their mother’s life by secretly passing a note to a school bus driver that read, “Call 911.”
The incident happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), as reported by News 13, ABC 6, and CBS 2. The driver immediately alerted authorities, who went to a home in Westgate, a rural area of the county, to investigate.
When deputies arrived, they found that the child’s mother was allegedly being held against her will by 29-year-old Glenroy Miller of the Bahamas.
According to News 13, Miller is accused of brutally assaulting the woman overnight, kicking her with enough force to break two ribs and puncture her lung.

Authorities said the mother, unable to call for help in front of the suspect, wrote a note on a piece of paper and gave it to her child, who is currently in first grade, according to a legal complaint obtained by News 13.
Miller was arrested that same morning, according to Fayette County public arrest records. He faces charges of armed kidnapping, willful injury, domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury, and obstruction of emergency communications, per public court records.
He is being held on a $1,500 bond and is also detained through Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to News 13 and CBS 2.
