A familiar favorite is back on top of the Most Popular Dog Names list.
On Nov. 13, the American Kennel Club (AKC) released its latest annual rankings, based on names registered with the organization — the world’s largest registry of purebred and mixed-breed dogs.
“Choosing a pet’s name is such a fun and important part of the process when acquiring a dog,” said Gina M. DiNardo, AKC president and CEO, in a statement. “People put a great deal of effort into picking a name that perfectly fits their pet and often spend a lot of time making that decision.”
For both 2022 and 2023, Max held the No. 1 spot for male dogs, until Milo briefly took over in 2024. But this year, Max has reclaimed its crown. Milo, meanwhile, has dropped out of the top 10, landing at No. 12.

Another notable shift comes from Hank — rising sharply from No. 35 to No. 2 this year.
