A Louisiana State University football player turned himself in to campus police on Friday, August 8, after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Police say he let two murder suspects stay in his dorm while they were hiding from authorities.

Running back JT Lindsey went to the LSU police station Friday morning. He has since been suspended from the football team, according to WBRZ, WAFB, and CBS Sports.

The two suspects — 17-year-old Shemell Jacobs and 18-year-old Keldrick Jordan — were caught by U.S. Marshals on Monday, August 4, inside an LSU dorm room. Police say Jacobs and Jordan were wanted for the killing of a 17-year-old boy in Alexandria, Louisiana, back in May.

Lindsey’s lawyer, Kris Perret, told WBRZ that Lindsey did not know the two men were wanted for murder when they stayed at his apartment. PEOPLE magazine reached out to Perret but did not receive a reply as of Monday, August 11.

An LSU football spokesperson said Lindsey is “currently suspended from team activities” and would not comment further “out of respect for the legal process.”

CBS Sports reports that officers found several weapons in the dorm where Jacobs and Jordan were arrested, including two AR-15 rifles, a Draco, and a Glock handgun.

Lindsey’s lawyer said the player “is adamant that he is innocent” and did not know the visitors had committed crimes or were wanted by police. However, an arrest warrant reported by WAFB claims Lindsey knew his friends were wanted for murder and “knowingly harbored and aided” them.

Lindsey is charged with two felony counts of being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. He is considered one of the top freshman running backs in the country, ranked No. 4 in Louisiana and No. 7 nationwide by recruiting site 247 Sports.
