Couple Welcomes 2 Sons, But Pick a Girl’s Name Just in Case. Years Later, They Meet Their Daughter-in-Law

Paige and Blake Souza first met in high school. They started dating during their senior year and stayed together through college, even while living in different cities. After several years apart, they finally married on July 13, 2018.

Their wedding was a big deal for their families, especially for Blake’s mom, Diane. During the reception, Diane decided to give a heartfelt speech that revealed a family story Paige had only partly heard before.

In the speech, Diane explained that she and her husband, Paul, had two sons. They had never agreed on a girl’s name—until months after Blake was born. One day, Paul came home and announced he had the perfect name for a girl: Paige.

Diane loved the name but thought they’d never use it since they weren’t having more kids. Years later, by a twist of fate, Blake married a woman named Paige. Diane ended her speech by saying, “After 26 years, we finally have our daughter Paige.”

The story brought smiles and even tears from the guests. Paige had heard Blake mention the name story years before, but hearing it at the wedding—and seeing everyone’s reaction—made it unforgettable.

Paige and Diane have always had a close relationship. Diane says Paige helps keep Blake calm and encourages him to slow down and spend time with family. Paige, in turn, says Diane has supported her since day one.

When Paige later shared a video of the speech online, it went viral. Many viewers, especially mothers of sons, loved the positive example of a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law who truly care for each other. Diane hopes it shows that wedding speeches don’t always have to be from the father of the groom—moms can have their moment, too.

For Paige and Diane, sharing the story has brought them even closer. “I know she’s watched me grow up alongside her son,” Paige says. “It’s nice for people to see how good our relationship really is.”
