Craig Robinson, best known for his role as Darryl Philbin on The Office, announced in a recent Instagram video that he’s stepping away from comedy to chase what he calls his “true calling.”
“Hey, everybody! Just wanted you to hear it from me: I am quitting comedy,” Robinson said in the clip. “But not for nothing. It’s been an amazing run, and y’all have been amazing and wonderful, but I’m following something bigger. So, thank you so much, I love you and stay tuned.”
In the caption of the post, the actor echoed his message: “Life update: I’m officially quitting comedy to focus on my true calling. Stay tuned. I’m working on something huge.”
Though Robinson hasn’t revealed specific details about what’s next, he hinted at a possible business venture in a follow-up post. “Turns out having a dream and building a business with your friends are two VERY different things,” he wrote. “I can’t go into detail just yet, but for real though any help would be huge.”
Robinson gained widespread recognition for his role on The Office, appearing in 118 episodes. His comedy résumé also includes TV roles in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Killing It, Mr. Robot, American Dad, The Cleveland Show, What We Do in the Shadows, and Big Mouth.
On the film side, he’s appeared in hits like Hot Tub Time Machine, This Is the End, Sausage Party, Dolemite Is My Name, and The Bad Guys.
Before fully stepping back from comedy, Robinson still has a few projects in the pipeline, including the upcoming Netflix animated feature In Your Dreams and The Bad Guys 2.
