The father of a missing 7-month-old boy was seen searching a brush field alongside law enforcement officers while wearing an orange jail jumpsuit.

Emmanuel Haro was reported missing on Aug. 14 by his mother, Rebecca Haro. She allegedly told police that she had been attacked by someone who then kidnapped Emmanuel outside a store in Yucaipa, Calif., according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Police later determined that the kidnapping never occurred, and both Rebecca and the child’s father, Jake Haro, were arrested on suspicion of murder. Emmanuel has not been located, and authorities believe the child is deceased.

Fox 11 reported that Jake Haro was seen assisting law enforcement officers in searching a field in Moreno Valley on Sunday, Aug. 24. Authorities confirmed Emmanuel’s father was present during the unsuccessful search.

“This afternoon a search for Emmanuel Haro was conducted along the westbound shoulder of the 60 Freeway, near Gilman Springs Road, in Moreno Valley,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement. “Investigators were assisted by cadaver dogs. Jake Haro was at the location with detectives. The search has concluded, and Emmanuel was not located. The investigation to find Emmanuel continues.”

On the day Emmanuel was reported missing, Rebecca told KTLA that she and Jake had taken their three children to a local park for another son’s football practice. She said she later drove to a Big 5 Sporting Goods store to purchase a mouthguard and brought Emmanuel with her.

At the store, Rebecca reportedly claimed she was about to change Emmanuel when she heard someone say “hola” and then lost consciousness, waking up to find her baby missing. She appeared with a black eye while recounting the incident to the station.

The sheriff’s department later stated that inconsistencies were found in Rebecca’s account.

“Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview,” the department said.
