Moments after a woman was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, a bystander who said he was a doctor was stopped by officers from checking on her, according to witness video obtained by the Huffington Post.
The footage, recorded in the immediate aftermath of the shooting on Wednesday, Jan. 7, begins after the woman’s SUV — struck by gunfire — rolls forward and crashes into a parked car.
“Can I go check a pulse?” a man asks in the video.
An agent responds, “No,” and orders him to back up.
“I’m a physician,” the man replies.
“I don’t care,” one agent is heard saying, while another says EMS is on the way and that they had their own medics on scene.
In the same clip, a woman can be heard shouting, “Where are they?” — seemingly referring to medical responders — before someone tells her to relax.
“How can I relax when you just killed my f—ing neighbor?” she fires back.
Across the 32-second video published by the Huffington Post, no one is seen providing aid to the woman who had been shot.
The driver was later identified as Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, the Associated Press reported.
“Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known,” her mother, Donna Ganger, told The Minnesota Star Tribune. “She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”
Earlier video of the incident showed a masked federal agent firing multiple shots into Good’s vehicle. The SUV then continued up the street before slamming into the back of another car.
The Department of Homeland Security claimed Good tried to “weaponized her vehicle” and said the agent acted in self-defense. But local leaders, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, have disputed DHS’ characterization.
“They are already trying to spin this as an action of self defense — having seen the video for myself, I want to tell everybody directly, that is bulls—,” Frey said at a press conference. “This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody getting killed.”
