Gregory Zecca, the 39-year-old stepson of reality TV personality Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman, has been taken into custody in Florida in connection with the shooting death of his 13-year-old son, authorities confirmed.
Officials with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said Zecca was arrested this week on charges including aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence.
The fatal shooting occurred on July 19, 2025, at a Naples apartment after deputies responded to calls about a gunshot. First responders found the teenager — later identified as Anthony Zecca — with a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators determined Zecca had been consuming alcohol and marijuana earlier in the evening while at a friend’s residence watching a UFC fight with his son. During the gathering, he handled a firearm in the room. Authorities say the weapon — initially made safe — was later reloaded, and Zecca unintentionally discharged it, striking his son.
A toxicology analysis reportedly showed Zecca’s blood-alcohol content was above the legal limit at the time of the incident. Law enforcement officials emphasized to the media that the tragedy highlighted the dangers of mixing firearms with substances.
Following the shooting, Zecca was placed on a psychiatric hold as part of the investigation. He was denied bond and remains in custody awaiting further court proceedings.
Chapman and his family have expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the incident as a devastating accident and asking for privacy as they cope with their grief.
