Jeffrey Epstein had no “client list,” and there is no evidence he blackmailed powerful individuals, according to a newly released memo from the Department of Justice and the FBI. The two-page document, issued over the July 4th weekend, has reignited political firestorms — especially from Elon Musk and pro-Trump influencers — amid lingering conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death and alleged high-profile connections.
The memo also reaffirms the official conclusion that Epstein died by suicide in his Manhattan jail cell on August 10, 2019, not by foul play, as many have speculated for years.
“This systematic review revealed no incriminating ‘client list,’” the memo reads. “There was also no credible evidence that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals… and no grounds to open investigations into uncharged third parties.”
The DOJ and FBI backed their findings with 10 hours of surveillance footage from the Metropolitan Correctional Center, showing no unauthorized access to Epstein’s cell block before his death. The footage reportedly aligns with prior investigations and confirms the findings of the DOJ Inspector General’s 2023 report.
“The conclusion that Epstein died by suicide is further supported by video footage from the common area of the Special Housing Unit where Epstein was housed,” the memo states.
No Further Action, No More Names
The memo makes clear that no new charges are expected and no additional individuals tied to Epstein will be prosecuted. Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate, remains the only figure convicted in connection to the trafficking operation, currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.
“No further disclosure is appropriate or warranted,” the DOJ concluded.
Despite this, pressure has mounted on Attorney General Pam Bondi, particularly from right-wing influencers and commentators, to unseal Epstein-related documents. Their calls have intensified following an earlier White House photo-op, where MAGA-aligned figures were handed “Epstein binders” that largely contained publicly available information.
Musk Escalates Attacks on Trump
The memo’s release comes just weeks after Elon Musk reignited tensions with Donald Trump, accusing the former president of being mentioned in unreleased Epstein documents.
“Time to drop the really big bomb,” Musk posted on X last month. “@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”
Although Musk later deleted the post and admitted he had gone “too far,” the billionaire resumed his criticism over the weekend, mocking the administration with memes — including a digital counter labeled “The Official Jeffrey Epstein Pedophile Arrest Counter” stuck at “0000.”
“What time is it? Oh look, it’s ‘no-one-has-been-arrested-o’clock’ again,” Musk quipped in one post.
Musk’s latest salvo follows Trump’s public accusation that the tech mogul had “gone off the rails” and was “becoming a train wreck,” particularly after Musk floated launching a third political party.
MAGA World Not Buying It
Several MAGA-aligned influencers also pushed back against the DOJ memo, accusing the administration of burying the story by releasing it late on the Sunday before a holiday.
“Who releases a statement about the Epstein files on the Sunday night of July 4th weekend?” asked far-right commentator Laura Loomer. “Someone who doesn’t want you paying attention.”
“When will @AGPamBondi file to unseal the Epstein files from the criminal case?” posted Jack Posobiec, who was among those given the Epstein binder earlier this year. “We were promised everything.”
While Trump has repeatedly denied any connection to Epstein — even citing a statement from Epstein’s former lawyer David Schoen that “President Trump was never implicated” — speculation has persisted, fueled in part by a resurfaced NBC clip of Trump and Epstein socializing in 1992.
Despite the DOJ’s effort to put the case to rest, it’s clear that in the political arena, Epstein’s name — and the conspiracy theories surrounding it — remain potent fuel.
