President Donald Trump said he plans to reach out to Savannah Guthrie following the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, and offered federal support to Arizona authorities leading the search.
“I think it’s terrible,” Trump, 79, told reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday, Feb. 3, when asked about the case.
“I’m going to call her later on,” the president added. “It’s a terrible thing. I always get along well with Savannah. Very unusual situation, but we’re going to find out…”
The White House also posted about Nancy’s disappearance on Instagram.
“The search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, is ongoing, and authorities are requesting assistance from the public,” the administration wrote. “Anyone with information is urged to contact 911. Our prayers are with the Guthrie family as we hope for Nancy’s safe return home. 🙏.”
Nancy, 84, was last seen at her Arizona home on Saturday, Jan. 31, at around 9:30 p.m. local time, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) previously said. A search began the next day after she was reported missing at 11 a.m.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said the family is leaning on one another as the investigation continues, adding that officials are staying in touch and that community support has been strong.

During a press conference earlier that same day, Nanos said investigators consider Nancy’s home a “crime scene,” and urged anyone with information about her disappearance to contact authorities or call 911.
“We don’t need another bad, tragic ending. We need some help,” Nanos said.
“This is an 84-year-old lady who suffers from some physical ailments, has some physical challenges, is in need of medication — medication that, if she doesn’t have in 24 hours, it could be fatal,” he said, later adding that Nancy “did not leave on her own.”
On Tuesday, Nanos said investigators still did not know Nancy’s whereabouts and were not yet sure how many people may be involved in her kidnapping.

In a statement read on the Today show Monday, Guthrie, 54, thanked supporters and emphasized that the family’s priority remains bringing Nancy home safely.
“We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900,” she said.
