President Donald Trump gave a moving eulogy for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, sharing what he said were some of Kirk’s final words to him.
Speaking at Kirk’s public memorial service on Sunday, Sept. 21, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Trump, 79, said that Kirk had once asked him to “save” Chicago.
“‘Please, sir, save Chicago,’” Trump recalled Kirk saying. “We’re gonna do that. We’re gonna save Chicago from horrible crime.” Trump noted that his administration has already deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C., and has discussed similar actions in other cities.
Later in his speech, Trump said: “I’m so proud of Washington, D.C., and now we’re going into Memphis, and we’ll get that one straightened out fast. And then we’re going to go do Chicago, and we’ll have Charlie very much in mind when we go into Chicago, and we’ll get that one straight.”
Trump also said his administration would soon announce what he called an “answer” for autism.
“I think we found an answer to autism,” he told the audience, adding that it would be “one of the biggest announcements, medically, in the history of our country.”

According to The Washington Post, the administration is expected to connect autism to Tylenol use during pregnancy, although more than ten years of studies have not found any such link.
During his remarks, Trump praised Kirk as “a giant of his generation.” He said, “I know I speak for everyone here today when I say that none of us will ever forget Charlie.”
Kirk, 31, was shot and killed on Sept. 10 while hosting one of his well-known campus debates at Utah Valley University. Tyler Robinson has been charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, violent offense in the presence of a child, and multiple counts of obstruction of justice and witness tampering.
Trump announced Kirk’s death on Truth Social, writing: “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us.”
Kirk was the founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, published several books, and hosted The Charlie Kirk Show podcast. A father of two, he was also a close ally of Trump and even spoke at Trump’s inauguration in January.
On Sept. 18, during a press conference at the end of his state visit to the United Kingdom, Trump recalled encouraging Kirk to pursue politics. “I told him, ‘Charlie, you have a good shot someday at being president,’” Trump said.
Kirk’s wife, Erika Kirk, released a statement on Sept. 12, saying her late husband had hoped to one day run for office and that his top priority would have been to “revive the American family.”
That same day, Trump was asked on Fox & Friends about the state of the country following Kirk’s death. His response: “I couldn’t care less,” when asked how the nation could “come back together.”
