Donald Trump set social media buzzing after an unconventional coin toss at the 2025 Army–Navy football game.
The 79-year-old president attended the Saturday, Dec. 13 matchup at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium, continuing the long-standing tradition of sitting presidents taking part in the ceremonial pregame toss for the 126th meeting between the two rivals.
“Mr. President, would you do the honor?” a referee asked as he handed Trump the coin used to determine kickoff.
Instead of a traditional flip, Trump placed the coin flat in his palm and tossed it upward in a motion that appeared to produce almost no spin. The coin landed on tails, favoring the Army Black Knights. Despite that result, the Navy Midshipmen ultimately edged out Army with a 17–16 victory.
Video of the toss quickly spread across social media, drawing millions of views and a wave of jokes about the president’s technique. Many commenters teased that it looked like Trump’s first attempt at flipping a coin.
“Trump with one of the worst coin tosses I’ve seen,” one user wrote, while another captioned the clip, “Me on my first day of coin toss school.”

Others expressed disbelief at the lack of rotation. “I’ve never seen someone mess up flipping a coin like this,” one person commented, while another joked that it was possible he didn’t understand how coin tosses work.
Several viewers compared the toss to a knuckleball pitch, noting how the coin seemed to float without spinning. One user quipped that the motion might have been better suited for a game of cornhole, while others likened it to tossing a fish back into the water.
Ahead of the game, Trump shared his thoughts on the annual rivalry in a post on Truth Social.

“Getting ready to land at Fort McHenry for my short drive to the Army-Navy Game,” he wrote. “Everyone is asking who am I supporting, Army or Navy? My answer is: ‘You must be joking if you think I’m going to give you that answer!’”
