President Donald Trump has publicly signaled his support for golf legend Tiger Woods following a high-profile rollover crash and subsequent arrest on charges of driving under the influence.

In a Tuesday interview with the New York Post, Trump, 79, confirmed he has maintained contact with Woods since the February 27 incident. The President emphasized Woods’ physical struggles over any legal culpability, citing the golfer’s extensive medical history as a primary factor in the event.

“He’s doing great, he’s doing good,” Trump stated. “He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he is under a tremendous physical pressure from his various ailments—the back and the leg.”

The investigation into the crash has highlighted Woods’ long-standing battle with physical trauma. According to a probable cause affidavit from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Woods told deputies at the scene he had undergone seven back surgeries and more than 20 operations on his leg.

While Woods passed a breathalyzer test, authorities reported signs of significant impairment. The affidavit noted:

  • Physical Indicators: Bloodshot, glassy eyes and extremely dilated pupils.
  • Sobriety Performance: Failure to complete sobriety exercises successfully.
  • Evidence: Deputies allegedly discovered two hydrocodone pills in the golfer’s pocket.

Woods, 50, reportedly refused a urinalysis to check for further narcotics or prescription medications.

The incident has created ripples within the Trump family. Woods is currently in a relationship with Vanessa Trump, 48, the former wife of Donald Trump Jr.

While Trump Jr. remains supportive of the couple’s co-parenting dynamic regarding their five children, sources close to the family indicate the arrest has triggered internal friction. “The recent situation raised some concerns for him,” a source told PEOPLE, adding that Trump Jr. is relieved that Vanessa and the children were not in the vehicle at the time of the rollover.

Despite a history of vehicular incidents, Woods remains resistant to employing a professional driver. Sources close to the 15-time major champion suggest his desire for total privacy outweighs safety concerns.

“He doesn’t want anyone to watch over him or know what he is doing,” a local source reported. “He thinks he is fine to drive.”

As the investigation continues, the narrative remains centered on the tension between Woods’ status as an elite athlete and the debilitating reality of his chronic physical recovery. “He doesn’t have an alcohol problem, but he does have pain,” Trump concluded.
