Donald Trump Claims Seth Meyers’ Jokes About Him Could Be ‘Illegal’

President Donald Trump lashed out at Late Night with Seth Meyers host Seth Meyers over the weekend, saying that mocking him on television might be “probably illegal.”

The 79-year-old president shared a lengthy Truth Social post on Saturday, Nov. 1, attacking the 51-year-old comedian after Meyers poked fun at Trump’s recent trip to Asia and his comments about catapults. Trump called Meyers a “truly deranged lunatic” and questioned whether the late-night host’s jokes should even be legal.

The clash began after Meyers aired a clip from Trump’s speech to U.S. troops in Japan, where the president vowed to bring back steam-powered catapults on aircraft carriers instead of the modern electromagnetic versions. Meyers jokingly introduced the clip as an “expert treatise” on catapults and added a tongue-in-cheek segment titled “Seth Translates Trump to English.”

“Experts say it would cost billions to go back to the old system,” Meyers quipped, “but Trump thinks he knows more about aviation than everyone else because he dances like one of those guys with the signaling sticks on the runway.” The show then cut to an edited video of Trump dancing while dressed as an aircraft marshaller.

In his Truth Social post, Trump fired back: “Seth Meyers of NBC may be the least talented person to ‘perform’ live in the history of television. In fact, he may be the WORST to perform, live or otherwise. I watched his show the other night for the first time in years. In it he talked endlessly about electric catapults on aircraft carriers which I complain about as not being as good as much less expensive steam catapults.”

He continued, “On and on he went, a truly deranged lunatic. Why does NBC waste its time and money on a guy like this??? — NO TALENT, NO RATINGS, 100% ANTI TRUMP, WHICH IS PROBABLY ILLEGAL!!!”

Representatives for Meyers and Late Night have not yet commented on the president’s post.

Meyers has long been one of several late-night hosts who frequently lampoon Trump, and this is not the first time the president has singled him out. In August, after NBC extended Meyers’ contract, Trump wrote that the comedian “has no Ratings, Talent, or Intelligence, and the Personality of an insecure child.”

The latest outburst follows a pattern of attacks from Trump against other comedians as well. In July, he celebrated the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and he has repeatedly targeted Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel.

Kimmel, 57, was suspended earlier this year after making controversial remarks about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Trump then called for him to be fired. When Jimmy Kimmel Live! returned to the air in September, Meyers voiced his support for Kimmel, telling his viewers that “it is possible to stand up to this kind of bullying and censorship.”
