Donald Trump Suggests Seth Meyers Mocking Him on Late Night Is ‘Probably Illegal’

President Donald Trump has accused late-night host Seth Meyers of crossing the line — even suggesting that mocking him could be “probably illegal.”

In a lengthy Truth Social post shared on Saturday, Nov. 1, the 79-year-old president lashed out at Meyers, 51, after the comedian poked fun at Trump’s recent trip to Asia. Trump branded Meyers a “truly deranged lunatic” and questioned whether the host’s jokes were permissible under the law.

The exchange stemmed from a segment on Late Night with Seth Meyers that lampooned Trump’s speech to U.S. troops in Japan. During that speech, Trump vowed to issue an executive order to restore steam-powered catapults on aircraft carriers, replacing the modern electromagnetic versions. Meyers jokingly referred to the president’s remarks as an “expert treatise” on catapults and launched into a new bit titled “Seth Translates Trump to English.”

After airing a clip of Trump’s speech, Meyers quipped, “Experts say it would cost billions to go back to the old system, but Trump thinks he knows more about aviation than everyone else because he dances like one of those guys that holds the signaling sticks on the runway.” The show then played a video of Trump dancing, edited to make him appear dressed as an aircraft marshaller.

That catapult segment was just one of several Trump-related jokes Meyers delivered that evening — and it clearly struck a nerve. Trump soon took to Truth Social to continue his long-running feud with late-night comedians.

“Seth Meyers of NBC may be the least talented person to ‘perform’ live in the history of television,” Trump wrote. “In fact, he may be the WORST to perform, live or otherwise. I watched his show the other night for the first time in years. In it he talked endlessly about electric catapults on aircraft carriers which I complain about as not being as good as much less expensive steam catapults.”

He continued, “On and on he went, a truly deranged lunatic. Why does NBC waste its time and money on a guy like this??? — NO TALENT, NO RATINGS, 100% ANTI TRUMP, WHICH IS PROBABLY ILLEGAL!!!”

Representatives for Meyers and Late Night have not responded publicly to Trump’s comments.

Meyers has frequently criticized the former president on his show, and Trump’s November 1 post is far from his first attack on the host. Back in August, when NBC renewed Meyers’ contract, Trump mocked him again, calling the comedian someone who “has no Ratings, Talent, or Intelligence, and the Personality of an insecure child.”

Trump’s recent streak of tirades against late-night figures began in July when he celebrated the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Since then, he has also taken aim at Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel — particularly after Kimmel’s September suspension from Jimmy Kimmel Live! following remarks about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. At that time, Trump publicly urged ABC to fire Kimmel.

When Disney later reinstated Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Sept. 23, Meyers publicly supported his fellow host, telling his audience it “is possible to stand up to this kind of bullying and censorship.”
