Google’s YouTube has agreed to pay USD 24.5 million to settle a lawsuit brought by President Donald Trump over the suspension of his account in 2021 following the events of January 6 at the U.S. Capitol.
Court filings in California show that USD 22 million from the settlement will go to the Trust for the National Mall, while the remainder will be distributed among other plaintiffs, including the American Conservative Union.
Google joins other tech giants that have resolved similar disputes with Trump. In January, Meta Platforms agreed to a USD 25 million settlement related to his suspension from Facebook, while Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) settled for USD 10 million.
The settlement does not include any admission of wrongdoing, according to the filing. Google confirmed the agreement but declined further comment.
The disclosure comes just ahead of an October 6 court hearing in Oakland, California, before U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers.
