President Donald Trump offered a quick reaction after catching portions of first lady Melania Trump’s upcoming documentary, saying what he saw left a strong impression.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Jan. 11, Trump said he hasn’t watched the full film yet, but praised the snippets he viewed.
“I’ve seen pieces of it, it’s incredible,” he said. “I think it’s going to do very– you know, she did a book and the book was a big number one bestseller, and this is a movie, and it seems to be captivating a lot of people’s attention.”
The documentary, titled Melania, is scheduled for its theatrical release on Jan. 30, and will premiere the night before at the newly retitled Kennedy Center, according to interim Kennedy Center President Ric Grenell.
The film, which Amazon MGM Studios reportedly purchased the rights to for $40 million, advertises that it will showcase “unprecedented access to the 20 days leading up to the 2025 presidential inauguration — through the eyes of the first lady-elect herself,” according to a press release.
Melania promises viewers “exclusive footage of critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments.”
The documentary’s trailer shows the first lady preparing for meetings, aboard Air Force One and alongside her son, Barron, as the two smile during a rally.
This film marks director Brett Ratner’s return to Hollywood after being accused by six women, including actress Olivia Munn, of sexual misconduct during the #MeToo movement, USA Today reported. However, no criminal charges were filed against him.
Ratner, who directed the Rush Hour film series, kept a “low profile” after parting ways with Warner Bros. in November 2017 following the accusations, the outlet reported.
In December, Ratner made headlines for appearing in the Department of Justice’s Epstein files. In a batch of Epstein-related photos released by the DOJ, Ratner was pictured hugging late French model agent and Epstein associate Jean-Luc Brunel, who is shirtless.
