Sleeping preferences are different for everyone. Some people need a fan for white noise, others rely on ASMR, and some debate over lights on or off. But according to one of President Donald Trump’s close associates, a few of his personal bedtime habits once created tension with his staff.
Biographer Michael Wolff revealed on a new Inside Trump’s Head podcast episode that Trump’s choice to install a lock on his bedroom door led to a direct confrontation with the Secret Service.
“During the first administration, he had a lock installed on his bedroom door, and that precipitated a fight with the Secret Service, who actually took it off — demanded it be taken off. This was a confrontation,” Wolff said.
Why no locks? According to The Week, presidents aren’t allowed to secure their bedrooms with locks because armed guards need immediate access in emergencies. A locked door could create dangerous delays.
This wasn’t the first time Trump’s preference for privacy made headlines. Back in 2019, Free, Melania: The Unauthorized Biography revealed that he had requested a lock on his bedroom door then, too.
Wolff also shared another dispute between Trump and White House staff: “Then there was another issue when the White House domestic staff changed his sheets, and he had a fit. What that’s about, I have no idea.”
