Dallas the dog is finally breathing freely after getting her head stuck in a large plastic pretzel container.
On August 17, Canine Rescue of Central Pennsylvania (CRCPA) learned that locals had spotted Dallas wandering frantically around York County, Penn., with the container lodged over her head, according to NBC affiliate WGAL.
The no-kill rescue team sprang into action, concerned for Dallas’ safety given the size and position of the container.
“That plastic container is down to, I would say, about a quarter of the way down its neck, and it’s been seen trying to get it off, and it can’t get it off. So, it’s not getting water. It’s not getting food. We’re worried about it getting proper oxygen,” CRCPA volunteer Beth Miller told the outlet.
Rescue workers and volunteers tracked Dallas over the next few days, but the frightened dog would flee into a cornfield whenever anyone approached.
On Tuesday, CRCPA turned to social media for help, posting on Facebook to request any sightings of the skittish dog.

In an update the following day, the rescue detailed their efforts.
“Dallas was first spotted early on Monday morning by a Canine Rescue of Central PA (CRCPA) volunteer. From that moment, our team and our incredible partners at FIND TOBY in PA sprang into action, determined to bring Dallas to safety,” the organization wrote. Volunteers searched through Monday and into Tuesday.
By 10 p.m. Tuesday, a new group of volunteer searchers joined the effort, including drone pilot Dallas Fuhrman from Nighthawk Drone Services. Fuhrman deployed a drone to help scour the area and ultimately located Dallas at 3 a.m. Wednesday.
“At 3 a.m., Dallas (named in honor of drone pilot Dallas Fuhrman) was finally located deep in a cornfield, disoriented, exhausted, and still struggling with the jar,” CRCPA shared.
Fuhrman called the rescue a “great team effort” that saved the dog’s life, according to WGAL.
After Dallas was found, CRCPA removed the jar and rushed her to Shores Veterinary Emergency Center for treatment.
“Dallas is suffering from severe dehydration, is infested with ticks, and is clearly in distress. She is now receiving the urgent care she needs, and we are awaiting bloodwork to better understand her full condition,” the rescue added.

The no-kill team promised to keep Dallas’ growing fanbase updated as she recovers. She is currently not available for adoption, but those wishing to support her medical care can donate.
CRCPA concluded their update with gratitude for the community: “The rescue of Dallas was only possible because of a compassionate community that refused to give up. From drone pilots to search teams to every person who kept sharing her story — Thank you!!!”
