Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi are reportedly preparing to return to the United States after spending roughly a year living in the English countryside.

The couple relocated to the Cotswolds following Donald Trump’s 2024 election win, trading California sunshine for rural U.K. life.

Now, DeGeneres, 67, and de Rossi, 52, are said to be rethinking that plan. According to the Daily Mail, the pair want to head back because they’re struggling with the cold British winters and are missing their close circle of friends in California.

“Ellen was adamant that she and Portia were going to stay in the U.K. while Trump was in the White House, but evidently she’s changed her mind somewhat,” an insider told the outlet.

“She’s been telling friends they are coming home soon because they miss them and can’t take the winters over there, and Portia wants to act again. They will be here for the holidays and longer by the sound of it,” the source continued. “Ellen was very clear that they’re coming back to California sooner rather than later. They miss the warm weather and their friends.”

Before settling into their Cotswolds home, the pair lived in a hilltop mansion in Oxfordshire on 43 acres of land — plenty of room for de Rossi, known for her role on Ally McBeal, to ride her horses.

“When we decided to live here full-time, we knew that Portia couldn’t live without her horses. We needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures for them,” DeGeneres previously explained in an Instagram home tour video.

Although the original plan was to spend only three or four months a year in the U.K., the couple ended up extending their stay considerably.

The Finding Nemo star shared in a July conversation with English broadcaster Richard Bacon: “We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in.’ And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.'” She also described their English home as “absolutely beautiful.”

Their U.S. real estate moves have reflected the overseas shift. This past January, DeGeneres and de Rossi listed their Montecito, California, home for $29.9 million. The property features five bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms.

Then, in March, they put another of their homes on the market for $5 million, just four years after purchasing it for $2.9 million — another sign that their next chapter may once again be unfolding back under the California sun.
