A Texas deer is turning heads for his unexpected sense of style.
In the woods around Lago Vista, locals have spotted a deer confidently sporting an unusual head accessory — a hammock tangled in his antlers. The Lago Vista Police Department joked that the deer’s new look gives off a “grunge” or “emo” vibe, reminiscent of a rock musician’s haircut.
Despite his bold fashion statement, the department assured residents that their “newest woodland icon” is doing perfectly fine. He’s been eating, drinking, and “strutting” through the forest as usual.
“He’s been spotted proudly wearing a hammock tangled in his antlers, and while his ‘forest-core fashion’ has raised some eyebrows, rest assured, he’s totally fine,” police wrote in a Facebook post.
A video shared by the department shows the deer calmly chewing on some food while his antlers carry a nest of white ropes — the hammock. The ends of the rope hang around his face, creating a tousled, asymmetrical fringe. The animal seems completely unbothered by his new “accessory.”
Police explained that there’s no need to intervene. Male deer naturally shed their antlers before winter ends, meaning the hammock will likely fall off on its own.
A game warden and wildlife biologist from Texas Parks and Wildlife echoed that sentiment, explaining that trying to help can often do more harm than good. “As difficult as it can be to see an animal with ‘hardware disease’ and want to help it, there are good, scientifically backed reasons why we do not get involved unless absolutely necessary,” they said, noting that darting animals in urban areas can be dangerous due to roads, people, and unpredictable behavior.
Authorities reminded residents to give the deer plenty of space while he enjoys his “main-character moment.”
“Please don’t try to approach or remove it,” police wrote. “He’s doing just fine — and honestly, we don’t want to ruin his vibe.”
