A 24-year-old former Texas Southern University football player, Tyler Martinez, was shot and killed during a confrontation in a Houston apartment parking garage, police say.
According to Houston Police Lt. Amber Khan, the incident occurred around 8:10 p.m. on Friday, July 11, at the 4460 Mac Apartments. Emergency responders from the Houston Fire Department arrived first, but despite their efforts, Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
“The victim and the suspect got into a physical altercation in the parking garage,” Khan told KHOU 11. “There was a bit of distance created during the fight, and at that point, the suspect pulled out a firearm and shot the victim multiple times.”

Suspect Arrested, Faces Murder Charge
The alleged shooter has been identified as Isaac Jasper Robinson, 22, a resident of the same apartment complex. After fleeing the scene, Robinson later turned himself in to authorities and has been charged with murder, according to a statement from the Houston Police Department.
KHOU 11 and ABC13 report that Robinson admitted to the shooting. He appeared in court on Saturday, July 12, where prosecutors said witnesses claimed a woman — allegedly associated with Robinson — provided him with the gun used in the shooting. The woman has not been publicly identified, and her role is still under investigation.
According to ABC13, witnesses stated that Martinez had pinned Robinson to the ground and was walking away when Robinson opened fire, striking him three times in the torso. Robinson, who was reportedly employed as a security guard, had no prior criminal history. His bond was set at $150,000.
Remembering Tyler Martinez
Martinez’s family confirmed his identity to local media. According to ABC13, he was listed as a defensive tackle for Texas Southern University’s football team in 2023 and had played with the team for four seasons.
PEOPLE has reached out to the Houston Police Department and Houston Fire Department for further details. The fire department has referred all inquiries to police.
The investigation remains ongoing.
