Kristin Cabot’s soon-to-be ex-husband was also on a date at the same concert where she was caught on camera in the arms of her then-boss, Andy Byron — creating a viral moment that quickly spread across the internet, a source close to her tells PEOPLE.
It’s another unexpected twist in a story that has continued to capture public attention months later.
Cabot, 53, and Byron, 51, attended the Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., on July 16 with friends when the pair appeared together on the “kiss cam,” with his arms around her.
Both immediately tried to duck out of sight, while Chris Martin joked from the stage that they might be having an “affair.”
The clip went viral almost instantly. Byron, the CEO of tech company Astronomer, and Cabot, the company’s chief people officer, soon resigned.
Following Byron’s resignation, Astronomer said in a statement that “our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.”
Cabot is married to Andrew Cabot, CEO of a rum distillery and a member of one of Boston’s most prominent families, often described as having such high social standing that they “talk only to God.” Byron is also reportedly married.
Kristin filed for divorce from Andrew, 61, about a month after the incident, though the two had already been separated before the concert. Both have children from previous marriages.
Earlier this month, Andrew confirmed their separation and divorce through his spokeswoman and asked for privacy.
“Andrew hopes this provides respectful closure to speculation and allows his family the privacy they’ve always valued,” the statement read.
Since then, a source close to Kristin has pushed back on what they call “misinformation” about what happened between her and Byron.
“Kristin and Andy [Byron] had an excellent working relationship, a great friendship. There was no affair,” the source told PEOPLE.
The source acknowledged that the behavior wasn’t appropriate: “It was inappropriate to be hugging your boss at a concert, and she accepts full responsibility for it. But the scandal, the downfall, the loss of the job — all of that is unfair.”
The same source added that Andrew was not blindsided, despite speculation. “Kristin and Andrew [Cabot] had been living apart, and one of the misconceptions in the media is that [he] was in Japan. In fact, he was at the Coldplay concert on a date.”
Neither Kristin nor Byron has publicly commented, while Andrew’s spokeswoman declined to speak further to PEOPLE.
“These are real people and real families,” the source emphasized. “The way people have taken a lot of enjoyment at their expense, it’s hard to see.”
