Family Describes ‘Unbearable Pain’ After 37-Year-Old ‘Devoted’ Dad Dies in House Fire as 2 Arrested on Suspicion of Murder

The family of a 37-year-old father in England has shared a heartfelt tribute after police confirmed two men were arrested in connection with a deadly house fire.

Shortly before 1:10 a.m. local time on Friday, Sept. 19, emergency services were called to a property on Saxons Way, Highters Heath in Birmingham, according to a West Midlands Police press release.

Daniel Gardner “was found seriously injured and taken to hospital but tragically died a short time later,” the release said.

Police confirmed that an 18-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday, Sept. 21, and remained in custody on Monday, Sept. 22.

A second man, 47-year-old Stephen Dale, had previously been arrested and has since been charged with murder. He appeared before Birmingham Magistrates on Monday, with a further hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Following Gardner’s death, his family issued an emotional tribute shared by police:

“Daniel, devoted son, daddy, brother, and nephew. Words cannot describe the unbearable pain and devastation we all feel,” they said.

“You gave everything and never expected anything in return. Gives me comfort that you are with Nan & Grandad now who will once again look after you for me. My heart will always be broken but I hope I can find the strength to carry on without you,” the message continued.

The family concluded, “All my love is with you Dan. Miss you every minute of the day. Mum & Nick Ryan & Liv Elliot & Charlie Lynn & Phi.”

Police added that their “thoughts remain with Daniel’s family at this tragic time,” noting that they are providing full support as the investigation continues.

Authorities are urging anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward.

West Midlands Police did not immediately respond when contacted for further comment.
