Federal agents searched a Fulton County, Georgia, election facility Wednesday, Jan. 28, in what the FBI described as a “court-authorized law enforcement action,” according to the FBI’s Atlanta field office.
The agency said the search took place at the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center in Union City, just outside Atlanta, and added that the investigation remains ongoing. Officials did not provide further details.
A law enforcement official told Reuters the search wrapped up Wednesday evening and said agents were looking for computers and ballots believed to be stored at the site as part of an investigation into possible election interference.
CNN, citing a source familiar with the matter, reported the search is tied to the Justice Department’s investigation into allegations of voter fraud in Fulton County connected to President Donald Trump’s long-debunked claims that the 2020 election was stolen.
Democrat Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election, including the state of Georgia.
Fulton County Commissioner Marvin Arrington Jr. criticized the raid during a Wednesday press conference, calling the situation “absolutely crazy.” He said that after access to voter records was denied in a civil lawsuit, investigators had now served a criminal search warrant.

“The criminal search warrant is under seal, so we don’t even know who the target of the investigation is,” Arrington Jr. said. “This is nothing but sowing the seeds of distrust. This is a full-frontal attack on democracy.”
Commissioner Mo Ivory also condemned the action, calling it a “scare tactic” intended to “instill fear and chaos.” She argued the focus on 2020 ballots is meant to discourage participation ahead of upcoming elections.
In a separate statement, Ivory said Fulton County’s 2020 election has already undergone multiple audits and warned that revisiting settled results—especially by removing original materials—serves no legitimate public purpose. She said her immediate priority is determining what materials were taken and under what authority, and she pledged to share accurate information with the public as it becomes available.
Trump, meanwhile, appeared to frame the raid as support for his past allegations. On Thursday, Jan. 29, he posted on Truth Social, “TRUMP WON BIG. Crooked Election!” while repeating some of his 2020 claims.

Earlier this month in Davos, Switzerland, Trump again alleged the 2020 election was rigged, saying, “It was a rigged election. Everybody knows that. They found out. People will soon be prosecuted for what they did.”
Reuters also reported that Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard visited the Fulton County site during the search. Senator Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, condemned her appearance, arguing it politicized the intelligence community.
A senior administration official said Gabbard has a role in election security and protecting election integrity against interference and would continue carrying out the president’s directive on securing elections.
