Fla. Man Accused of Fatally Stabbing His Pregnant Partner Inside Apartment with Their 3 Other Children Inside

A Florida man has been arrested after authorities say he fatally stabbed his pregnant partner inside their apartment.

Mario Alejandro Ramirez, 37, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder on Tuesday, Dec. 23, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO).

In a news release, the BSO said deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at an apartment in Oakland Park, Fla., shortly before 1 a.m. on Dec. 23. When they arrived, they found a woman suffering from injuries that included stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies also located Mario at the residence and said he appeared to have self-inflicted injuries. Authorities said they struggled with him while applying pressure to control his bleeding, before taking him into custody. He was later transported to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.

The BSO did not immediately respond to a request for additional information.

The victim was identified as Fayanni Andreina Ramirez, Mario’s partner and the mother of their three children, according to NBC Miami, WPLG10 and CBS News. Investigators told WPLG10 that Fayanni was pregnant at the time of the attack.

Fayanni also had an active restraining order against Mario related to a previous incident, WPLG10 reported.

Neighbors told WPLG10 they heard loud noises and screaming around the time deputies were called. Another neighbor, Paola Alvarez, told NBC Miami that she saw the couple’s three children run from the apartment covered in blood. “That’s something they’ll never be able to erase from their minds, never,” she said.

Mario was held without bail ahead of a court appearance on Friday, Dec. 26. Investigators told WPLG10 they have not determined a motive.
