During a press conference, Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said Jaramillo was “brutally attacked” and “murdered” while performing his duty. “He gave the ultimate sacrifice — his life — defending us, defending you,” she said, calling the incident “unacceptable” for the community.
According to CBS News and WBLT, the deputy was shot after a struggle ensued at the crash scene. The suspect was later discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, though their identity has not been released. A second individual is being questioned in connection with the case.
The investigation remains ongoing, and MDSO has not yet issued additional details.
In a post on X, Sheriff Cordero-Stutz described Jaramillo as a “valued member of our agency,” adding:
“At just 27 years old, he served our community with professionalism, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow deputies during this difficult time. Deputy Jaramillo’s legacy of integrity, compassion, and courage will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him.”
