A 22-year-old Florida gym teacher has been arrested after allegedly sending inappropriate material to one of her teenage students.
Yezmar Angeanis Ramos-Figueroa was taken into custody on Wednesday, Nov. 26, by detectives with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), according to a news release posted on the agency’s Facebook page.
Authorities said Ramos-Figueroa is facing two felony counts: distributing obscene material to a minor and transmitting harmful material to a minor.
Investigators allege the offenses occurred while she was employed as a physical education teacher at Central Pointe Christian Academy. The private school has several campuses across Florida, and Ramos-Figueroa worked at the Kissimmee location, about 20 miles south of Orlando.
According to the OCSO, the case began when the victim’s mother contacted law enforcement in mid-October, reporting that Ramos-Figueroa had “appropriate contact” with her 13-year-old son. Detectives later interviewed the boy and obtained text messages and photographs that were allegedly sent to his phone by the teacher.
On Nov. 26, detectives met with Ramos-Figueroa, who allegedly admitted to texting the student and sending him a picture, the sheriff’s office said in its release.
She was subsequently taken to the Osceola County jail and booked. She has not yet appeared before a judge, so a bond amount has not been set. It is currently unknown whether Ramos-Figueroa has retained an attorney to speak on her behalf.
