Former Superman actor Dean Cain has committed to becoming a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.

The 59-year-old star of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman shared on Fox News his decision to join ICE, following the Trump administration’s recent efforts encouraging Americans to enlist amid a crackdown on immigration.

“I’m actually a sworn deputy sheriff and a reserve police officer — I wasn’t part of ICE, but once I put that out there and you put a little blurb on your show, it went crazy,” Cain told Fox News host Jesse Watters on Wednesday, Aug. 6. “So now I’ve spoken with some officials over at ICE, and I will be sworn in as an ICE agent, ASAP.”

“I’m stepping up,” he added. “Hopefully, a whole bunch of other former officers, former ICE agents, will step up and we’ll meet those recruitment goals immediately, and we’ll help protect this country.”

Cain also mentioned during the interview that he was prepared to do whatever ICE director Todd Lyons “wants me to do” and that he would be on the front lines “in a heartbeat,” though he expressed some doubt about being placed “in that position.”

Earlier the same day, Cain announced his plans on Instagram and encouraged others to follow suit, emphasizing the importance of joining first responders to “help secure the safety of all Americans.”

This development comes amid the Trump administration’s recent recruitment drive for ICE. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) launched a campaign this week offering incentives such as “a maximum $50,000 signing bonus,” “student loan repayment and forgiveness options,” among other benefits, as detailed on the DHS website.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem also announced on Wednesday, Aug. 6 that ICE “will waive age limits for new applicants.” So far, DHS has received over 80,000 applications.

Cain, known for portraying Superman on television from 1993 to 1997, recently made headlines after questioning in a TMZ interview how “woke” James Gunn’s new Superman would be, noting that the director described the character as an immigrant.

“Superman has always stood for truth, justice and the American way, and the American way is immigrant-friendly. Tremendously immigrant-friendly, but there are rules,” Cain said. “I think that was a mistake by James Gunn to say it’s an immigrant thing, and I think it’s gonna hurt the numbers on the movie.”

Fans quickly pointed out that the character—an alien—had previously addressed immigration themes, including a scene from Cain’s series where an immigration officer demanded Superman provide a “green card.”

The clip circulated on X, with one user commenting, “@RealDeanCain wtf are you talking about then? You literally had a scene in the tv series where they recognized you were an alien and needed a green card??”

Another added, “Dude doesn’t remember his own show.”
