A Georgia man has been charged in the deaths of his girlfriend and her 11-year-old daughter.
Roland Suckoo, 41, faces two counts of malice murder in connection with the Dec. 12 deaths of Connie Jackson, 33, and her daughter, 11-year-old Arielle Davis, according to DeKalb County police.
Investigators initially believed Jackson had shot her daughter and Suckoo before taking her own life, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. But police later said their investigation led them to a different conclusion.
“After ongoing, diligent investigation by DeKalb County police, it was determined this was actually a double murder, not a murder-suicide,” police said, per the Journal-Constitution.
Jackson’s mother, Artelar Jackson, told 11 Alive that her daughter had been preparing to leave Suckoo shortly before the shooting.
“The first thing she said to me when she answered the phone, she said, ‘Ma, I packed all my stuff, ma. I’m ready to go, ma. I’m tired, ma. I’m done,” Artelar said, according to the outlet.
Jackson also leaves behind a six-month-old daughter, whom Artelar said she is now caring for.
“I surely don’t want to see my daughter and my granddaughter leave this world, but they left something behind, something that they cherished more than life itself,” she said.
A GoFundMe post described Jackson as “a loving mother, daughter, and friend,” and Arielle as “a bright, joyful child.”
“Neither Connie nor Arielle deserved what happened to them, and this senseless act has devastated all who loved them,” the post read.
