A 12-year-old girl has been identified by her family as one of the victims killed in a mass school shooting in Canada on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Kylie May Smith was among those who died in the attack at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia, according to a GoFundMe campaign created after the tragedy.
“We are completely devastated and have no words as we try to process the magnitude of the situation,” the fundraiser states.
The fundraiser was organized by Smith’s aunt, Shanon Dycke, who said the money will support Smith’s mother, Desirae, her brother, Ethan, and other relatives with travel costs and a memorial to “remember the beautiful, kind, innocent soul [Kylie] was.”
Dycke also wrote on Facebook that “our families world [sic] has crumbled” following the loss of her “beautiful niece,” adding that Smith “was at Tumbler Ridge school yesterday, and didn’t make it out.”
Authorities confirmed that nine people died in the shooting, including the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Jesse van Rootselaar.
At a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) press conference, officials said one teacher and five students—three 12-year-old girls and two boys ages 12 and 13—were found dead inside the school. RCMP Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald said one victim was found in a stairwell and that investigators believed the others were found in the library.
Two additional people—the suspect’s mother and his 11-year-old stepbrother—were also discovered dead at the home they shared with van Rootselaar, PEOPLE previously reported.
Authorities said van Rootselaar was found dead at the school with what appeared to be a self-inflicted injury. A motive remains under investigation.
