A 14-year-old girl died after being struck by a pickup truck as she walked home from school in Flower Mound, Texas.
The Flower Mound Police Department said the incident occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the intersection of Valley Ridge Boulevard and Browning Drive, following a collision involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian.
The girl, a Flower Mound resident, was taken by the Flower Mound Fire Department to Medical City Denton Hospital, where she died from her injuries, according to authorities.
A preliminary investigation found that the driver of a 2020 Chevrolet pickup truck had stopped at a stop sign facing south in the 6000 block of Browning Road. As the teenager began to cross the street, she was hit by the truck. She has been identified as Isha Mishra, according to ABC affiliate WFAA, NBC affiliate KXAS and CBS affiliate KTVT.
Police said the 60-year-old driver from Lewisville was not injured and stayed at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
It is not yet known whether any charges have been filed. A spokesperson for the Flower Mound Police Department said on Thursday, Dec. 4, that there were no new updates in the case.
WFAA reported that Mishra had been walking home from school and was just minutes away from her house when the crash occurred.
School district officials, who did not respond to a request for comment, told local outlets that their “thoughts are with the family during this very difficult time.”
Following her death, her uncle, Sambit Mishra, told KXAS that he hopes “wherever she is that she’s happy.” He shared that Isha loved to sing and dance and dreamed of having a career where she could help others.
In a separate interview with WFAA, Sambit described his niece as a “fun-loving, cheerful girl.”
“She loved her brother. She loved her parents. She loved the community,” he said.
Family members and friends gathered at the Mishra home on Wednesday, Dec. 3, to support her parents and loved ones.
Her uncle also told KXAS that the family does not hold any “resentment” toward the driver and believes Isha would have felt the same way.
“She would have just forgiven,” he said.
