Girl, 6, Dies in Go-Kart Accident at Florida Adventure Park

A 6-year-old girl has died following a go-kart accident at Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park in Port St. Lucie, Fla., authorities said.

According to a news release from the Port St. Lucie Police Department, officers responded to the park just before 9 p.m. local time on Saturday, Dec. 6, after receiving reports that a child had been injured in a go-kart incident.

First responders arrived and the girl was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Pierce for treatment. She died from her injuries on Sunday, Dec. 7, police said. Her identity has not been made public.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic incident that occurred at the Port St. Lucie, Florida, park over the weekend. Our deepest sympathies go out to the child’s family and loved ones,” an Urban Air spokesperson said in a statement on Monday, Dec. 8, according to WPBF.

The spokesperson added that the company’s “policies, procedures and equipment are designed to keep children and families safe,” noting that “the well-being of the children and families we serve is always our top priority.”

“Our team responded immediately, and emergency personnel arrived onsite. We are working with state and local authorities as their investigation moves forward,” the statement continued. “Out of respect for the family, the park is closed while we focus on supporting the investigation and keeping everyone affected by this terrible tragedy in our thoughts.”

The Port St. Lucie Police Department said an investigation into the accident is ongoing and that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has also been notified.
