The parents of a 2-year-old Oklahoma girl who was fatally mauled by the family dog just weeks before her third birthday have been arrested.

Jordan McGuire, 34, and Darci Lambert, 24, were taken into custody Friday, Nov. 21, on complaints of second-degree murder in connection with the death of their daughter, Locklynn McGuire.

Oklahoma City police were called to a home in the 1500 block of Northeast 26th Street shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 for a child welfare check. When officers arrived, they found Locklynn dead inside the residence.

Staff Sgt. Dillon Quirk said detectives from the Crimes Against Children unit responded to the scene and began investigating what happened.

Investigators determined the child had been in a room inside the home with one of the family’s four dogs when she suffered the injuries that led to her death. Quirk said detectives later learned Locklynn was left alone in that room with the animal for a significant amount of time before she was found.

“During the investigation, detectives learned that the child was left in that room with the animal for a substantial period of time before she was discovered deceased,” Quirk said. “And ultimately a murder arrest came from that investigation.”

In the aftermath of Locklynn’s death, relatives created a GoFundMe to help cover funeral and memorial expenses.

“Locklynn was pure light,” the fundraiser states. “She was curious, gentle, and full of joy — the kind of little girl whose smile could brighten even the hardest day. She loved deeply and was deeply loved. Losing her in such a heartbreaking and unexpected way has left our entire family shattered.”
