Greene Says She’s Receiving Threats as Trump Coins New Nickname Amid Feud

As tensions inside the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement grow, President Donald Trump has turned on one of his most loyal allies, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, giving her a new moniker: Marjorie “Traitor” Greene.

In a post on X on Saturday, Greene said that because of the president’s remarks about her, she has become the target of “a hot bed of threats” from people “being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world.”

Why the Feud Matters

The public clash between Trump and Greene, a Republican from Georgia, represents a rare and notable break within the MAGA faction. For years, Greene has acted as one of Trump’s most prominent surrogates, pushing his message to the hard-right base and helping drive grassroots energy and activism.

Lately, though, she has emerged as one of the GOP’s louder internal critics on certain issues, particularly foreign policy and the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Greene joined three other House Republicans—Thomas Massie, Lauren Boebert and Nancy Mace—in signing a petition to force a vote on releasing the files.

Trump has brushed off renewed interest in the case as “the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax,” accusing Democrats of resurrecting it to divert attention from their approach to the government shutdown and other problems. He said “only a very bad, or stupid, Republican would fall into that trap.”

Key Details

“Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Green [sic] is a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday morning, unveiling the new nickname and misspelling her last name. Trump is well known for assigning derisive nicknames to rivals and critics. It is the first time he has publicly used that label for Greene, though conservative activist Laura Loomer and other detractors used it previously.

In an earlier Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump referred to Greene’s last name as “Brown,” writing, “(Green grass turns Brown when it begins to ROT!)” and accusing her of having “betrayed the entire Republican Party when she turned Left.”

Those comments followed a lengthy Truth Social post on Friday night in which Trump declared he is “withdrawing my support and Endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene” in the 2026 midterm elections. He went on to say that “all I see ‘Wacky’ Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!”

Greene, who has long defended Trump and attacked Democrats for what she calls unfair smears against him, pushed back publicly. In a Friday post on X, she said the president “attacked me and lied about me,” accusing him of “coming after” her in an effort “to make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next weeks vote to release the Epstein files.”

On Saturday, she updated her followers on X, saying private security firms have contacted her with “warnings for my safety as a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world.” She stressed her years of backing Trump, calling him “the man I supported and helped get elected.”

Greene added that, as a Republican who “overwhelmingly votes for President Trump‘s bills and agenda,” she finds his attacks—and what she describes as the “venomous nature of his radical internet trolls (many of whom are paid)”—“completely shocking to everyone.”

She also urged an end to increasingly extreme political discourse, writing, “The Political Industrial Complex and the toxic violent nature of American politics must end.”

Earlier in the week, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released three emails in which Epstein, the disgraced financier, discussed Trump. Epstein wrote that Trump “spent hours at my house” with one of Epstein’s victims and allegedly “knew about the girls,” rekindling scrutiny of Trump’s past ties to him. Trump has repeatedly denied knowing about Epstein’s crimes and has said he cut off their relationship years before Epstein’s death. Several of Trump’s allies have characterized the Democrats’ move as a “smear” effort targeting the president.

Epstein died by suicide in a New York City jail in 2019 while awaiting sex trafficking charges. He had previously pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting prostitution from someone under age 18, served jail time and was required to register as a sex offender.

After Representative Adelita Grijalva was sworn in, Democrats reached the necessary number of signatures on a petition to force a House vote on releasing the Epstein files. The petition was signed by all Democrats and four Republicans, including Greene. She has been unwavering in her stance that the files should be made public, arguing that “Americans deserve transparency.”

How Allies and Critics Are Reacting

Conservative activist Laura Loomer celebrated Trump’s new nickname, writing on X on Saturday: “President Trump has adopted my 4 year old nickname for MTG. Marjorie Traitor Greene. I’d be lying if I said I’m not loving this.”

Greene’s daughter, Lauren Greene, reshared her mother’s Saturday post on X and wrote: “Please pray for my mom’s safety!”

Far-right commentator Nick Fuentes criticized the shifting loyalties in the movement, posting on X Friday night: “So now Ben Shapiro, Randy Fine and Lindsey Graham are considered MAGA, but Marjorie Greene, Tucker Carlson, and Thomas Massie are not? Your Israel First ‘MIGA’ movement is dead. The America First Movement is the future.”

Former GOP Representative Matt Gaetz urged against internal warfare, writing in a Saturday morning X post: “I love Trump, MTG, Massie, Tucker….and even those I feel are too accommodating to the worst decisions made by Israel’s government. I won’t be baited into attacking friends and leaders in our movement because some people disagree on some things.”

Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, reshared Trump’s Truth Social posts about Greene in a Friday X post and wrote: “This almost feels like a moment where Marge should phone a friend… I’m here for you girl… I told you not to trust him… all he cares about is HIMself (and protecting pedos) he never loved you. My granny always said ‘be with the man that loves you more than you love him.’ Trust me, sis, you are better off without him. The GWORLS are fighting!”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a New York Democrat, weighed in on X Friday, writing: “Marjorie Taylor Greene is crushing Donald Trump right now.”

Representative Thomas Massie, the Kentucky Republican leading the petition effort, wrote in a Friday X post: “Next week could be big for survivors of Epstein’s sex trafficking scheme. We are forcing a recorded vote in the House on releasing the Epstein files. @realDonaldTrump & @SpeakerJohnson can still be on the right side by encouraging a YEA vote. How will your Representative vote?”

What Comes Next

House Speaker Mike Johnson has said that lawmakers will vote next week on a bill that would require the Justice Department to release all files connected to the investigation into Epstein and his associates.
