Grimes says Elon Musk — her ex and the father of her three children — has blocked her on his social media platform, X.

The musician made the claim after an X user pointed out that she appeared to no longer follow Musk. Grimes replied that she wasn’t playing any follow/unfollow games.

“For context I’m just living my life,” Grimes, 37, wrote on X on Thursday, Dec. 11. “He followed me then blocked me. I’m not gna be following and unfollowing. My only priority is co parenting, I am not interested in public dramatics.” She added, “This is so silly lol.”

Musk, 54, and Grimes were first linked in 2018. They welcomed their first child together, son X Æ A-Xii (nicknamed “X”), in May 2020. They later had two more children: daughter Exa Dark Sideræl via surrogate in December 2021, and son Techno Mechanicus in June 2022.

In October 2023, Grimes filed a petition requesting to establish parental rights for all three children, according to online records viewed by the outlet.

The singer has previously suggested the legal situation has affected her personal and professional life. In November 2024, she said she had delayed releasing new music while dealing with a custody dispute. In a post on X at the time, she described a yearlong fight in court and said she spent months without seeing one of her children.

Her concerns about privacy — especially for their kids — surfaced again in early 2025 after Musk brought their eldest child, X, then 4, to the Oval Office on Feb. 11 during an appearance alongside U.S. President Donald Trump. Grimes said she hadn’t known about it beforehand and learned of it from an X user.

“He should not be in public like this,” she wrote on X. “I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”

In an interview with TIME published Feb. 24, Grimes responded to the backlash she received after speaking up. She said she wanted people to stop sharing images of her child widely, adding that she believes “fame is something you should consent to.”

“Obviously, things will just be what they are,” she told the outlet, “But I would really, really appreciate that. I can only ask, so I’m just asking.”

She continued to raise the issue in March, responding to an X user about the risks of parenting in the internet era. Grimes wrote that she had repeatedly asked Musk and the public to keep their children offline and said she’d attempted legal steps as well.

“I have tried begging the public and my kid’s dad to keep them offline, and I’ve tried legal recourse … The state of my children’s lives being public is of grave concern to me and I think about how to solve this every day,” she wrote in a March 13 post.

She added that she wished there were stronger protections that would let a parent prevent young children from being pushed into public life, while also expressing doubt that the legal system would help if she tried to pursue it further.
