A woman shared how her sister-in-law pretended to be her close friend but ended up betraying her on her wedding day.
The bride, 37, posted on Reddit’s “Wedding Drama” forum, explaining that her sister-in-law acted like her “bestie” but secretly livestreamed her wedding for the groom’s ex-wife. She also gave the ex updates about their personal life.
Even though the wedding happened two years ago, the bride says she still feels hurt.
The woman explained that her husband has a 10-year-old daughter with his ex-wife. Because the ex had past struggles with addiction, she wasn’t around for much of the girl’s early years. The bride stepped in as a mother figure when she started dating her husband.
Later, the ex-wife received 50/50 custody, even though she had been very critical of her daughter’s appearance — so much so that the girl needed therapy.
On the wedding day, the sister-in-law livestreamed the ceremony without permission for the ex-wife, who was not invited. The two had been best friends since they were teenagers.
The bride later wrote that her sister-in-law also filmed private moments with her stepdaughter, who was the flower girl. The couple didn’t even know about it until a year later when another family member told them.
The next day, the sister-in-law gave the ex-wife a full “rundown” of the wedding and even stayed the night with her and her daughter to “support them” because the wedding was “too hard” for them.
The bride said this was especially hurtful since her sister-in-law would often badmouth the ex in private.
Later, the couple also discovered that the sister-in-law had been sharing other updates about their lives with the ex-wife. Because of this, they blocked her on social media. The brother-in-law was also blocked because he always defended her behavior.
“[The sister-in-law] is truly a piece of work, and my husband has no interest in dealing with her or her constant drama,” the bride wrote. “His family is the type that sweeps everything under the rug and acts like nothing ever happens.”
Reddit users strongly disapproved of the sister-in-law’s actions. Many agreed the couple made the right choice to cut off contact.
