A bride says her sister-in-law stole the spotlight on her wedding day by turning the celebration into a stage for her own pregnancy reveal.
Posting in Reddit’s “Wedding Shaming” forum under a thread labeled “Monster-in-Law,” the 26-year-old bride described how her husband’s 30-year-old sister repeatedly made the day about herself, despite years of what the bride called clear “narcissism.”
“They don’t even know how f—– up that was,” the bride wrote.
The bride explained that she had hoped her new sister-in-law would put her attention-seeking behavior on pause for at least one day. Instead, just five minutes after the ceremony ended, the groom’s sister pulled the couple aside to share that she was about five or six weeks pregnant.
The sister-in-law and her partner — who live in another state and are “not even close” to the newlyweds — framed it as a quick, private moment, telling them, “We just wanted to tell you since we never get to see each other in person, but it’s your day,” before walking away.
The bride and groom, both 26, congratulated the couple and assumed that would be the end of it, especially since the parents-to-be had acknowledged whose day it was supposed to be. But, according to the bride, things escalated quickly.

“The rest of the cocktail hour she is telling everyone, I guess individually, so it is just spreading like wildfire and all of his side is talking about that,” the bride recalled. Guests were even FaceTiming others to share the news during the wedding.
Soon, the pregnancy “became the main point in the night.” The bride said the theme even bled into the gifts, with the newlyweds receiving mugs labeled “promoted to uncle/aunt est. 2026.”
“Obviously it was all very premeditated,” she wrote, adding that her husband kept muttering “what the f—” every time the subject came up, trying not to get pulled into the excitement on a day that was supposed to be about their marriage.
A few of the bride’s friends were “openly appalled,” calling the sister-in-law’s behavior “f—– up” and an obvious attempt to upstage the couple.

Commenters on Reddit largely agreed, calling the timing “wild” and “totally rude.” Many also pointed out that five or six weeks is quite early to be announcing a pregnancy at all, given the higher risk of miscarriage in the first trimester.
“Feels very main character syndrome, especially when she’s that early pregnant,” one user wrote. “Like you could announce it just any other day.”
Another commenter wondered if the timing was intentional: “Was she trying to get pregnant for your wedding? At five weeks pregnant I feel like you’d only know if you were actively trying and checking, or if you were super regular with your periods and super vigilant about testing. Especially with the mugs? I feel like she was trying to be pregnant at your wedding.”
