A wedding toast turned into an unforgettable moment — but for all the wrong reasons.
A guest shared the shocking story on Reddit’s “Wedding Shaming” forum, explaining how the celebration started off “nice” but quickly went downhill once the groom’s friend gave his speech.
“I couldn’t see the couple’s faces during the toast, but let’s just say the applause was half-hearted at best,” the guest wrote.
From the very beginning, the speech rubbed people the wrong way.
“He said he was going to tell the story of how the bride and groom met, and we thought it would be sweet. It wasn’t,” the Redditor explained.

Instead of sharing a romantic story, the groomsman revealed something harsh — that during a work trip, the groom had first tried to date another colleague. When that didn’t work out, he “settled” for the bride.
“He hooked up with the bride to console himself,” the groomsman allegedly told the crowd.
Even worse, the groomsman bragged that he had advised the groom back then: “Worst case scenario, you can always try your luck with [bride’s name].”
Like the wedding guests, many Reddit users were shocked. Some guessed that the bride must secretly “hate” the groomsman, or that the groomsman disliked her.
“To say he was raised in a barn is an insult to barns,” one person commented.
Others pointed out that weddings are the wrong time for that kind of “joke.”
“A lot of guys think the best man speech is their chance to be a comedian, and it’s almost never funny,” one Redditor wrote. Another added, “If a bridal party speech is memorable, it’s usually for terrible reasons.”
