He Killed His Pregnant Wife and Baby Son — Then Was Found Naked in the Snow with Slain Child Nearby

Jeremy Albert Best has been sentenced to three consecutive life terms in prison for the November 2023 murders of his pregnant wife, their unborn child, and their 10-month-old son.

Best, 50, expressed remorse during the sentencing hearing last Thursday, reportedly offering an apology to both his own family and that of his late wife, according to ABC 8, CBS 2, and Jackson Hole Radio.

In February, the Idaho man pleaded guilty to shooting his wife, Kali Jean Randall, in the back on November 30. After the killing, he fled the scene with their infant son, Zeke.

Authorities launched a two-day search for Best and Zeke before a group of hunters discovered Best—naked and incoherent—lying in the snow near a highway. Zeke was found dead nearby, PEOPLE previously reported.

Best entered his guilty plea as part of a deal to avoid the death penalty, according to KTVB 7, which also noted that he will not be eligible for parole.

“This was the justice we hoped for,” Teton County Prosecuting Attorney Bailey Smith Baker told Jackson Hole Radio. “We are pleased that the Court gave a life sentence for each victim.”

Randall’s family issued a statement following Best’s arrest in December 2023, describing the emotional toll of the tragedy. “The pain we feel is unimaginable,” they said, after Kali was discovered dead in their home in Victor, Idaho.

Police responded to the residence after receiving a 911 call that was quickly disconnected. A woman’s voice was heard shouting, “Jeremy! Jeremy, no!” before the line went dead, PEOPLE previously reported.

Kali Jean Randall was 38 years old at the time of her death.

Her brother, Brian Randall, told PEOPLE that his sister “was absolutely a genuine beautiful soul.” He said he never suspected anything unusual about Best, describing him as “a normal guy.”

Brian recalled that Kali had met Best in 2009. The couple married in September 2022, according to her social media posts. A talented artist, Kali created handcrafted jewelry and had previously worked as a veterinary technician.

“Sometimes maybe you don’t know people,” Brian reflected, noting that there had been no known issues between the two.
