A gripping new ABC News Studios docuseries premiering on Hulu this month unpacks the shocking truth behind Mike Williams’ 2000 disappearance — and the wife who stopped searching but wasn’t telling the full story.
“Mr. and Mrs. Murder” debuts July 30 and dives deep into the 17-year mystery that surrounded the sudden vanishing of the 31-year-old Florida father, who never returned home after going duck hunting on Lake Seminole the morning of his wedding anniversary.
For years, local authorities believed Mike had drowned and been eaten by alligators after his boat was found abandoned. His wife, Denise Williams, accepted the theory, had him declared legally dead just six months later, and moved on. But not everyone bought the story.
One of the first people to grow suspicious was Kathy Aldredge, the wife of Mike’s best friend, Brian Winchester. In the new trailer for Mr. and Mrs. Murder, Kathy recalls the shock of watching Denise and Brian begin a relationship shortly after Mike’s death — a relationship she says involved “decadent sexual behavior.”
“I couldn’t believe it,” Kathy says. “They were living in Mike’s house, acting like nothing happened. That told me they knew exactly what happened to him.”
The betrayal cut deep. “To say they stabbed me in the back doesn’t even touch it,” she adds. “They stabbed me in the soul.”
Eventually, Brian divorced Kathy and married Denise, further raising suspicions. But what Denise and Brian didn’t count on was Kathy’s determination.
Over the next 17 years, Kathy and Mike’s family refused to give up. Kathy eventually became a police informant, went undercover, and testified in court against her ex-husband and former friend. The secrets that emerged in the courtroom stunned everyone — and brought long-awaited answers to Mike’s family.
“I did feel a lot of satisfaction that they were imploding,” Kathy says in the series. “I loved it.”
